What We Do
Litigation & Arbitration
Litigation is one of our core practice areas, given the extensive experience of the partners of the firm in the area of resolution of disputes of all kinds, either through negotiation or litigation, between financial institutions, public and private entities.
We have a very broad experience in this area which includes any type of lawsuit, from the simplest to the most complex and challenging.
Our clients are granted access to our website enabling them to check in real time how their cases are evolving or to provide us with any information.
Criminal Law and Misdemeanor
Public sanctions, criminal and administrative misdemeanour law is one of the strengths of L & A.
We act mainly in the context of violations of economic, tax, and bankruptcy law.
Legal Assistance to Companies in Difficulty
In view of the current economic environment of the Portuguese market, there is a high number of companies that are going through economic and financial difficulties.
These companies have distinct legal needs regarding their relationship with the tax, social security authorities and remaining creditors, as well as with regard to the respective managers and directors who are subject to legal duties attaching to their positions in the company, whose violation may generate personal liability, both civil and criminal.
Currently, the Portuguese legal regime provides for alternative means of dealing with an insolvency, which are aimed at keeping the business going of companies which though economically viable are experiencing difficulties due to the financial and economic crisis.
In order for these alternative means to be used successfully in practice, it is crucial that legal advice is sought as soon as possible so as to be able to act in a timely manner.
Commercial and Corporate Law
Every company needs legal advice, either in general or in regard to specific aspects of its activity.
L&A is particularly suited to providing legal support to small and medium sized companies, having been structured with the aim of providing response to the need of those companies to combine the quality and effectiveness of legal services with reasonable costs.
In this area, L&A advises on the negotiation and drafting of contracts, preparation and registration of the resolutions of the company organs, as well as amongst others in labour and tax related matters, including in general all matters required by the day-to-day management of a company.
Real estate assets are particularly important and valuable, with legal and tax particularities.
In this practice area, L&A advises its clients on the negotiation, conclusion and registration of any contracts of real estate assets, as well as in administrative and tax related matters.
With regard to lease contracts, in addition to the negotiation and conclusion of contracts, we advise our clients on the day-to-day management of such contracts, namely with regard to the collection and increase of the rents and in the renewal or renegotiation of leases.
Family, Minors and Inheritance
L&A also provides legal assistance to private clients.
Thus, we represent our clients in this area in matters concerning divorces and legal separation, regulation of parental responsibilities, inheritance issues, including among others the drafting of wills, the partitioning of the inheritance and judicial inventory.
In view of the sensitivity of these matters, we tend to favour negotiated solutions for judicial cases without compromising the defence of the legitimate rights and interests of our clients in the negotiation of those agreements.
